OWASSO – An Owasso couple who allegedly bound with tape the hands and feet of two grandchildren and threatened to cut out one child’s tongue has been charged with multiple child abuse counts.

Prosecutors claim that the McKinneys, who were responsible for children’s “health, safety and welfare,” on multiple occasions tied them to a bed at night and bound their hands and feet with duct tape. The McKinneys also are accused of holding down the boy and the threatening to cut his tongue out with a knife. The defendants are charged, too, with locking the girl in a dark garage, according to a police report.

That one child was tied to the bed by Mary McKinney for “climbing on things during the night and waking the rest of the house.”--That the defendants placed cotton balls and duct tape over the children’s eyes.---That the children were locked out of the residence and in the garage for long periods in the dark.---That both children, while in the garage, received threatened that their heads would be cut off with swords. The boy said his legs hurt from “Papa” sitting on him, which the grandfather allegedly did so he could “cut out his tongue with a pocket knife,” the report indicates. While in the McKinneys' care, the boy reportedly went from 42 to 30 pounds because he was denied dinner as punishment, reports show.

GUTHRIE — Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation agents are searching this morning in a house where a slain 6-year-old girl lived.

Denise’s father, Matthew Peoples, 23, has been arrested on a murder complaint in connection with her death.

A motive for the killing has not been released.

Denise was reported missing Sunday afternoon by her mother. Peoples initially said he had dropped the child off at the mother’s house but later confessed to killing her and told officers where to find the body, Oklahoma City Police Lt. Don Holland said.

If this bothers you that children are beaten, starved and killed at the hands of their own families, let your Representatives and Senators know! If not, pray for God to stir your heart.

I always email a link to the news story or cut and paste it. I tell them that as their consituent I fully support them investing resources in child protective services (DHS child welfare) & child abuse prevention services (Children First, Parents As Teachers, Parent Child Center, OCAP, etc.) I also tell them that I want reform in the area of child welfare through DHS.

It also doesn't hurt that you let them know that you vote according to their personal history of protecting children.

Hope this gives you some guidance.
