What we learned is that real independence means trusting your "soul" will remain the same, regardless of whether you life plays out in sequential order or not. Real independence means knowing that soul mates who Have It All and mothers who Do It All are fantasies, but loving partners and caring parents are real. Real independence silences that metronomic ticking clock by stretching and sculpting and adding color and shading to the picture of what a happy family can look like.
