The Mouths of Babes

Jessalyn, our 8-year-old daughter, loves to write as I've shared with you before. She is currently working on a "Christmas" series and is eagerly filling up a journal full of holiday themed stories about the little girls of Christmas. She bounced into my room last night after diligently writing for quite some time. Mom read this, she demanded. I chuckled as I read it. I think my advocacy for health care reform may have rubbed off on her.

And here the story reads....

THE VICE SANTA

Hi my name is Amanda. I work for Big Santa or as you prefer Santa or Santa Clause. I am not an Elf. I am the vice Santa, which means I am Santa when he is sick. One day Santa was sick. I filled in for Santa as usually. It turned out Santa had Diabetes.
The Doctor said he ran out of the medicine Santa needed. The Doctor said they will get the medicine in 4 weeks. Santa said he could not wait and Santa was right. So Santa died. Now I am Santa that’s what they call me. I got to go check on the Elves toys bye!
THE END!
BY JESSALYN MAYNARD

I asked Jessalyn, why couldn't the doctor get Santa his medicine.
Mom, she responded, he didn't have insurance.
How horrible, I exclaimed, why doesn't he have health insurance?
Looking at me smartly and with much self assurance she said, Mom, It's Santa, He's self employeed, he can't afford it.

Hmm.. Well at least someone is listening to me. :)
