Scared of needles, this year try the Flu Mist.
Who can get the intranasal influenza vaccine? Persons from 2-49 years of age
who are not pregnant and do not have long term health problems.
Flu Mist unlike the flu shot is a live vacccine. You may experience runny nose, cough, fever, wheezing, headaches, abdominal pain, vomiting or diarrhea.
Like the flu shot, it takes up to two weeks to develop protection. Protection lasts up to a year.
Live vaccine is rarely spread from person to person.
Shot or mist influenza vaccine can prevent influenza. On average, 226,000 people are hospitalized and 36,000 die each year because of influenza.
My kids chose the flu mist this year. Despite the throat tickle they both gave it a thumbs up! According to them, anything is better than a shot.
