A first-degree murder charge has been formally filed against a man who police say admitted to killing his four-year-old step-son for soiling his pants. Prosecutors filed the charge against Steven Wayde Lockler, Jr. Thursday morning.
The child, identified as Christopher Barnard, died Monday after he was rushed to Claremore Regional Hospital after Lockler called police to say the boy was having trouble breathing. Lockler initially told police the child had fallen in the bath tub, but police say he later admitted to punching the child in the stomach, saying he had become angry after the child soiled his pants.The medical examiner lists the cause of death as blunt force trauma to the abdomen.
Lockler was booked into the Rogers County Jail and remains there. Court records show a judge set his arraignment date for May 14th.Funeral services for Christopher are scheduled for Friday morning at 10 a.m. at Claremore's Memorial Heights Baptist Church.
