Bitter cold, short days and holiday bustle may be aggravating to you, but for some the season can even invoke depression. Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD) haunts 3% of the population every year. Persons who have suffered depression in the past may be more likely to fall victim to the disorder.
Symptoms of depression include:
Excessive Sleeping or Restlessness
Changes in appetite
Changes in moods
Decreased interest in social activities
A Depression Screening is avaible on my side bar under the heading: "Feeling Sad?"
If your are experiencing signs and symptoms of depression, talk with your doctor or local therapist for a more intensive screening and treatment plan. Don't have insurance or can't afford care? Check with your employer or spouse's employer and inquire if they have an Employee Assistance Program (EAP). Many larger companies offer counseling through EAP at no cost as a service for their employees. Free clinic links are also in my side bar.
Don't let your symptoms go untreated. There are simple solutions to ease your distress so that you may have a truly Happy Holiday!
