BOOM! *FLASH*

I LOVE fireworks!! My mom absolutely hates them! When I was growing up, she would always stay locked up in the house, while my dad and I went all over the farm finding things to "blow up". One of my dad's most favorite stories was when he and the preacher caught the pasture on fire shooting fireworks for the kids. Now that I'm a mom, I kinda get why my mom didn't like her baby girl playing with things like gun powder, fire, intense flames....

We don't let our kids play with fire any other day, so maybe we should heed my mom's warnings to a point. :) Just remember to be safe. Check out what the CDC has to say for firework safety!

Celebrate Safely — Prevent Fireworks-related Injuries

They can be exciting, festive and fun – but it’s important to remember that fireworks can also be dangerous.

In 2006, eleven people in the U.S. died, and an estimated 9,200 were treated in emergency departments, for fireworks-related injuries, which were most common on and around holiday celebrations, such as the 4th of July and New Year’s Eve.

What You Can Do

Remember- the safest way to prevent fireworks-related injuries is to leave fireworks displays to trained professionals.

What You Should Know

• About 1 in every 3 fireworks-related injuries in 2006 happened between June 16 and July 16.
• People actively participating in fireworks-related activities are more frequently and severely injured than bystanders.
• During the time around the 4th of July, almost half of those injured by fireworks were children and young adults under 20.
• Injuries from fireworks most often affect the hands, eyes, head, face, and ears.
• Fireworks can cause blindness, third degree burns, and permanent scarring. They can also cause life-threatening residential and motor vehicle fires.

This is mom and I am not anymore confortable with my precious grandchildren playing with dangerous stuff.

But Jessalyn and I like to think that lightening is the result of PaPa shooting fireworks in Heaven.

He needs to be careful though as lightening struck my house last week.

I hate to admit it but .... *dramatic pause* ..... my mom was right. :) Jess became a firework casualty this weekend. She's ok, but yeah, next year we may have a new approach to fireworks! ;)
