In open carpal tunnel release surgery, the transverse carpal ligament is cut, releasing the median nerve. The size and shape of the incision may vary.
According to webmd, no big deal. Just a simple releasing of my transverse carpal ligament. Hmm... do I need to remind you, WITHOUT ANESTHESIA. I'm trying not to freak out, but I'm a nurse and we do NOT make good patients!
I remember my doctor mentioning that he has never had the procedure on himself. I wonder if would change his ideas on anesthesia and pain meds if he experienced the cutting of his transverse carpal ligament.
It's kind of like male gynecologists telling you how you well feel with your first pap smear. That's right, he doesn't know.
So all to say, pray for me and my pain tolerance, and don't worry I will be reminding him of his offer for pains meds! Ha!
