Mom Looses Again

"the God dog"

Since the dreadful demise of our former dog Ally do to a speeding automobile, Devon and Parker have been asking for a new pet. I've successfully avoided the subject for nearly 5 months now.

After Parker earnestly told Devon in February that he intended to get him a new dog for his birthday, the suggestions have bombarded mom at a more rapid pace. Parker has insisted that we just MUST get a new dog for daddy. Everyone knows I have a weakness for this small little man of mine and I began to cave to the pressure.

So at the pediatrician's office last week, as we waited in the "puppy room" (thanks so much, Nurse Judy), I flipped impatiently through a dog breeder book. I read a brief description of the Weimaraners. I liked what I read: gentle, passive, no shedding, friendly and enjoys being inside. I also read the price tag. I conspired a ploy to look like the good guy and still not have to get another dog.

I came home that day and announced to my dear husband, we could get a dog, but it had to be a weimaraner. I knew he would never cave to the price, therefore, I look like a consenting mom but yet still do not have to get a dog.

Three days later, our friend Jennifer, bless her little heart, calls Devon to tell him that her brother in law rescued a dog at Grove Lake, yes we all know what's coming.... it's a weimeraner. Well, to make a long story short, the dog got checked out by the vet, a little thin but in good health, and now we have a new dog.

He's done well in the Maynard Household for day one. The vet estimates his age at about three years. He hasn't want jumped on us or had an accident. He seems very low key and lovable. As I told the story to my friends at church Wednesday night, Parker's missions teacher responds,"it's a God dog", as it's plight seemed to be a spiritual destiny.

We'll see how destiny treats us, but so far so good. And I do have to admit, I'm a little smitten for him myself. Don't mention that to my husband, I'll never here the end of it!

Have a great weekend! Hope to see you in church tomorrow morning!
